Catastrophic Events: Drought Unit and Town Hall: $10
Recently the US has experienced major droughts that have impacted a large part of the country. Droughts are the most costly catastrophic event or natural disasters in the world. Unfortunately, though, it is hard to get kids really pumped about learning the causes, effects and mitigation of droughts. This unit design is set to give you everything you need to teach about droughts for about a week with middle school students. You will find a cause and effect flow chart that can be used with all natural disasters/catastrophic events. I have also included student handouts about how to do a town hall meeting about droughts. In this handout I have included discussion questions, scenario they are trying to solve and I have also included role cards for your students. You will also find my detailed lessons with links to resources for the week and pictures of my students notes on the board while working.
This is also a great cross curricular lesson to do with a SS class.
You are also welcome to go to my blog: http://backyardlearning.blogspot.com and ask me questions if you would like help with the unit.
